Following a 14-inch storm and nearly three feet in the last week, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows has reached 700 inches of cumulative snowfall for the 2016-17 season, equaling just over 58 feet (17 metres).
Yesterday, the California Department of Water Resources declared the 2016-17 winter season the wettest on record for the northern Sierra Nevada. For Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, 700 inches of snowfall is the second greatest in its recorded history, ranking only behind 2010-11 which saw 810 inches.
January 2017 broke the resort’s record for most snow in one month, with 282 inches, followed by the snowiest February ever with another 196 inches. Average annual snowfall at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is 450 inches.
With a 22-foot base in mid-April, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows will once again host Tahoe’s longest season: Squaw Valley will be skiing and riding into June and on July 4, weather and conditions permitting, marking only the fourth time in history that the resort has reopened for Independence Day. Alpine Meadows will operate seven days a week through Sunday, April 30 and then Saturdays & Sundays only through closing day on Sunday, May 14.
