With up to seventeen metres of snow a season, there isn’t a bad time to ski in Japan. But some months are better than others for working professionals with no kids.

If you’re a solo traveller, young professionals with no kids or a couple whose kids have left the nest then trust me, February is your month to ski in Japan.

It’s not that January is bad, far from it. You can traditionally expect more snow fall in January than February but when you’re talking about metres and metres of snow, an inch here or there really doesn’t matter.

Japan has got popular, for good reason. Australians have themselves to blame for that and with popularity has come better range of hotel products, ski pass savings and more. But word has globally got out on our favourite snow destination and China, Europe and North Americans are descending upon Japan like they invented it.sponsored post

So, if you have the luxury of choosing your ski holiday time around your own schedule rather than the school schedule, February is your month. January books out quickly with families taking advantage of Australian summer school holidays and the end of January in 2017 is the Chinese New Year and Australians then get overtaken by Chinese and ex pats living in Hong Kong now on holidays.

If you want to hang with less Australians and more internationals then February is your month. Over fifty six thousand Aussies flew into Tokyo in January this year compared to close to thirty six thousand in February.

The weather will also be in your favour with more sunshine in February than January and slightly warmer temperatures (still below zero so the snow will be uber dry though).

Did we mention the cost of skiing? January is considered peak season so February is always going to be cheaper if booking package deals.

But you had better get in early as we’re no longer competing with other Australians for the available hotel rooms, we’re competing with the world as Japan’s snow fields have become the hot destination for skiers and boarders around the world. Visitor numbers from Hong Kong are up forty percent, from the USA twenty percent and China almost a hundred percent.

SkiMax have earlybird package deals to Japan from $1083 per person for 7 nights twin share at Aria Hotel in Hakuba, daily breakfast and 6 day lift pass. Valid for travel Feb 10 – 21. Book & pay by July 29.
