OwnFone have released a mobile phone for children to keep them in touch with parents.

You’ve hit the slopes with your family. Little miss is in the kids terrain park and junior mister is in ski school and you, well, you’ve hit the powder and you’re running late.

Sound familiar?

OwnFone is a new kid friendly phone dubbed the ‘dumb phone’ for ‘smart parents’.  The phone can make calls to pre programmed numbers and can accept calls but there is no screen, no texting, no internet, no camera and therefore no cyber bullying and no huge bills from app purchases.

The OwnFone is small, easy to use, and light enough to be carried around a child’s neck on a strap. It is tough enough to survive bumps and scrapes, and its’ colourful, customisable design is appealing to children.

It includes a triple 0 emergency button, and OwnFone will provide three free updates to phone contacts every year. It is suitable for day-to-day use, or using a unique shutdown feature, it can be fully charged and stored away as an emergency phone and will still make a call after a year.

The personalised OwnFone handset costs from $69 to purchase from the OwnFone website (ownfone.com.au), where customers personalise the phone and choose the best price plan from as little as $20 per month with calls included.
