New South Wales and Victorian alpine regions are on higher alert with Sydney currently experiencing a Covid cluster in seven local government areas and Greater Sydney now under tighter restrictions.

Greater Sydney has been nominated as a “red zone” for Victorians from 1.00am on Friday and the Victorian border will shut to those Sydney residents.

Victoria’s Chief Commissioner of Police, Shane Patton, today also revealed that a “soft border” is now in place between regional New South Wales and Victoria. There is currently no hard lockdown for those outside of Greater Sydney, but police operations around Wodonga, Wangarrata as well as border towns in alpine regions has been increased.

Those travelling from regional New South Wales to the Victorian ski fields without the correct permit will be fined $5000 and sent back.

Meanwhile New South Wales Health have increased Covid-19 testing in the snow fields for the next seven days during the school holidays.

Testing is now available daily at Jindabyne from 9.00am to 3.00pm until Wednesday June 30. The testing centre is at the HealthOne facility car park at 5 Thredbo Terrace.

Perisher will have daily testing available from 9.30am to 12.30pm in the National Parks Shelter. While Thredbo will test by appointment at your accommodation.
