Switzerland announced today that all ski resorts will close as the Swiss Federal Council announced stringent measures to address the coronavirus with a ban on social gatherings of 100 or more people.
Verbier have, along with Andermatt, Zermatt and others closed with immediate effect. The remaining Ski Cross and Slopestyle FIS World Cup events in Switzerland are also cancelled.
The Freeride World Tour grand finale, Verbier Xtreme, has been cancelled and the world champions are the current leaders on the competition rankings.
“We must unfortunately announce the immediate closure of our ski area and all our facilities and this for the rest of the season” said a Verbier statement. “All events scheduled on the ski area for the rest of the season are cancelled.”
Switzerland has also closed schools until April 4 and announced the ban on gatherings until the end of April. The border with Italy will remain open but further restrictions will be applied.
