5 online fitness programs for skiers and snowboarders in lockdown

Southern Hemisphere skiers and snowboarders in various stages of lockdown can get fit for the slopes in the comfort of their own lounge room thanks to a number of online snow fitness programs.

While the snow world waits for a green, amber or red light on the season ahead, we can all prepare as though powder is in our future. Hope starts with squats in the garage, kitchen, dining room or backyard.

It’s easy to be overwhelmed with all the online gyms on offer in an isolation world, so we’ve done the trawling for you to find the best available so you can train with a Winter Olympian, qualified personal trainer or yogi.

Try these five.

Peak Fitness Peak Confinement

SnowsBest’s own ski fitness guru, Guillaume Gee Tual, has created four sessions a week through Zoom so you can work on your mobility, strength and cardio. Each session is live with personalised instruction and $10 to join. Choose from wellness and mobility, strength, cardio and animal flow. You can sign up via his Facebook page.

Team Buller Riders with Britt Cox

2019 Snow Australia Club Coach of the year, Hamish Cox (yes he’s Britt’s brother), has been a leader in online remote training for athletes. He developed the TBR Athlete Portal in 2019, to provide cutting edge online athlete resources including strength and conditioning programs, nutrition resources and sports psychology tools.

The Team Buller Fitlink portal is now available to everyone from elite athlete to lounge room athlete and includes power circuits, ski specific strength and even a Sunday yoga session with Australia’s most successful female mogul skier, Britt Cox. It’s four sessions in a week for $60 or $20 for a yoga session.

Book ahead, only 10 “athletes” per class.

Snow Australia Snow Active with Sami Kennedy Sim

Olympic skier cross athlete, Sami Kennedy Sim, has designed a different weekly 20 – 30 minute program for strength and fitness. The #snowactive program can be done at home with a different session launched every Tuesday on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Snow Fitness with Olympian Manuela Berchtold

The 10 day and 30 day programs have been developed by two time Olympic mogul skier, Manuela Berchtold and include stretching sessions, core care, park workouts, knee prep, leg care, smash out sessions and more with a ton of filmed workouts to do in your own time, in your own home, garage or backyard. From $29 per month. Sign up here.
