If you’re heading to Italy to ski or snowboard the Dolomites, you’d better pack your helmet. They will become compulsory for all ages at ski resorts in Italy from the 2025/2026 season.

Anyone skiing or snowboarding, sledding or tobogganing must wear a CE-certified Helmet to meet European safety standards at all ski resorts. Surely Vercace, Gucci or Prada make a CE-certified helmet, si?

Jokes aside, it’s all part of the new Sport-Decree law. Prior to this season it was compulsory for those under 14 in 2021 and then those up to the age of 18 for seasons after.

If you’re found without an appropriate ski helmet then you’ll have to cough up €200 (close to AUD$400) and you could even lose your ski pass for a limited time.

But that’s not the only new safety rule. Resorts will now be required to set aside at least one marked area for rescue vehicles and must be equipped with a minimum of one automated external debrillator.

With the Winter Olympics in Italy in February, 2026, the country wants to lead the world of safety in winter sports.
