Vail Resorts to bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics

The Winter Olympics will be epic if Vail Resorts have their way with not one but 14 Olympic resorts to share the 2026 event if their bid is successful.

A source at Vail Resorts revealed today the company’s potential intention to share the Olympic love across five different states in three countries in a move designed to shake up the Winter Olympics after PyeongChang in Korea (2018) and Beijing in China (2022). It’s an innovative move that could disrupt the Olympic movement that is failing to pull in the big numbers of years gone by.

After poor tickets sales in PyeongChang, our source believes that spreading the events across different regions will ensure tickets sell out. With events in a North American timezone, television rights will also be competitive should their bid progress, which is a win win for the IOC. Perisher in Australia is being considered for the cross country venue which will keep the Southern Hemisphere viewers engaged, though it would mean a separate seasonal date for this event.

Beaver Creek will host alpine thanks to the success of the annual Birds of Prey World Cup event. Breckenridge will hold slopestyle and Vail halfpipe, Park City will host ski jumping, bob sleigh and skeleton at Utah Olympic Park and border cross and skier cross at Park City Mountain.

Whistler will be the recommended resort for moguls and in a unique move Perisher in Australia is being touted for cross country. Though word is there is already internal fisticuffs over which event will be held where with Perisher claiming moguls should be there due to the Olympic success of Dale Begg Smith and Matt Graham.

Plans are said to build an ice rink at South Lake Tahoe to keep Heavenly and Kirkwood in the Epic Olympic mix so that ice hockey, figure skating and curling could then be held in California. Though concerns about the legal weed status of Cali and the performance enhancing record of the recent Russian curler have been raised.

The Opening Ceremony would potentially be at the Denver Mile High Stadium and closing thought to be at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium.

“Whistler (Vancouver) and Park City (Salt Lake City) have both already hosted Winter Olympics so they bring a wealth of experience to the bid table” said our source today, April 1, in  Australia. “The games is about bringing countries together, so let’s bring Canada and the USA together to host them, ay.”

Every Olympic athlete will receive a full limited edition Epic Olympic Pass for 2026 to ski post games at their resort of choice. Medalists will receive no blackout dates with unlimited skiing for the season, finalists will have unlimited but only 10 days at Vail, Beaver Creek and Whistler and those that don’t make the finals will be restricted to non peak periods only, no holidays while the Australian alpine skiers only will get the Epic Olympic Australia pass.

Watch this space for more, or less, to come…

    1. Not sure i understand that Perisher Australia is even in the equation for an OWG Mogul event. If Vail gets it the time zones are completely different and you have so many Freestyle courses OS incl past OWG done. The success of Dale Begg Smith and Graham has nothing to do with the courses. Cheers
