An hilarious take on New Zealand winter tourism in lockdown

When you work in tourism and are stuck at home in lockdown, you’ve got to get creative to get your message out there, right?

Kiwi tourism guru, Hamish Saxton, is the CEO of Hawke’s Bay Tourism, and like the rest of New Zealand is looking at a year ahead of potentially domestic tourism only.

Saxton knows New Zealand well as the former CEO of Dunedin Tourism he’s got both the South and North Island covered and began a creative campaign on his personal Facebook page which has since gone global.

With good reason. Who knew you could visit so many areas of the country while stuck in your own four walls.

SnowsBest readers will recognise many of these destinations.

Mt Cook

You may have Heli skied here. Recognise it?

Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers

Skiers and snowboarders will love this one. Build your own with what’s in your freezer.

Rotorua

What’s New Zealand without a visit to a bubbling mud pool? Why travel when you can experience it on your own stove at home.

Ohakune, home to Mt Ruapehu

This little ski town is famous as the carrot capital. If you’ve skied at Ruapehu’s Turoa ski field then you’ll know the Big Carrot.

Cape Kidnappers

This one needs no explanation.

Cromwell, near Wanaka and Queenstown

Anyone who’s been to Cromwell knows the big fruit. Here’s Saxton’s take.

Challenge accepted, Australia. Show us what you’ve got in your four walls.
