Spring skiing, it’s where the sunshine meets the snow and good times are to be had and there’s no better good times than New Zealand this September.
With New Zealand in a current snow fall cycle, and big snow already forecast for the first week of September, with a classic kiwi late-season snow dump and some awesome spring deals to be had, now’s the time to be spontaneous with a last minute spring trip across the ditch to catch some turns.
We’ve got all the reasons why this makes sense, not that you need convincing, right? Did someone say NZD$100 lift passes?
Spring après hits different
Picture sipping your favourite concoction on the après deck with views across the Southern Alps for days. There’s no better views than across the Canterbury Plains from Mt Hutt or the views to Queenstown from The Remarkables and Coronet Peak. With longer days, there’s more sunshine to be had and more sunshine means more time outside.
Ski in to the resorts’ Aperol Ice Bars for some serious orange glow up and channel your inner Euro skier but time it just right, get some good runs in to warm up the soul and look for the sweet afternoon spot. Pull up a chair, kick back and drink it all in (pun intended).
Hot tub heaven

Take your après to the next level and immerse yourself in a hot tub with altitude (and a view). You’ll find Heidi’s Hot Tub perched behind Heidi’s Hut at Coronet Peak and the highest hot tub in New Zealand at Mt Hutt via the Summit Chair. With spring sunshine, spa bubbles and beats you’ll never want to get out.
Want more après? Queenstown’s Snow Machine music festival also drops from September 9 – 14 with Claptone, Netsky, Hot Dub Time Machine, Luude, Amyl and The Sniffers, Mallrat, and more hitting up The Remarkables, Coronet Peak and the Queenstown Main Stage? So you can ski all day and party all night.
First tracks to moon tracks
Longer days means more skiing, right? First tracks at Mt Hutt is on Saturday and Sunday at 8.00am or join the Queenstown locals daily from 8am at Coronet Peak, for an hour daily until September 14, before they hit their day jobs.
Then try Moon Ski for last tracks under a full moon on September 6 or 7 at Mt Hutt with two hours of moonlit skiing with starlight views from 6.45pm with live music to provide the sound track.
Spring ski passes from NZD$100 a day!
Spring offers the best value ski passes going and 2025 has gone next level with lift passes from NZD$100 a day.
Ski or ride Coronet Peak and The Remarkables in Queenstown and Mt Hutt near Christchurch with a 5 day, 6 day or Unlimited Spring Pass.
Check out the 6 day pass from NZD$100 a day here, or the 5 day pass from NZD$105 here.
If you fancy taking some more leave then the Unlimited Spring Pass lets you ski from September 1 until the end of the season (and with more snow forecast that could be well into October).
