Heading to Vail? We checked out Solaris Residences for you. Here’s our good, bad and the not so ugly of one of Vail Village’s premiere addresses.
What they say
A fully serviced apartment hotel, Solaris Residences feature one bedroom apartments to six bedroom penthouses in the heartbeat of Vail Village.
Where
The Solaris Residences is a landmark building that overlooks Solaris Plaza in downtown Vail on the free bus route that takes guests around the village and to and from neighbouring Lionshead. Solaris is also a short walk to Gondola One (with heated seats and free wifi).
Interior Features
Each contemporary mountain design apartment or residence has a different layout but all feature natural stone and exposed wood and individual soft furnishings with high end name appliances including Sub Zero fridges and Wolf stoves. Every room has a flat screen television including some ensuites.
Bedding is Frette linen with bamboo and Egyptian cotton towels and Aveda toiletries.
Crestron Home automation controls lighting, blinds, traffic cams and valet contact AND you can access nine mountain cams that shed light on lift lines, snow quality, weather, and crowds.
Services
Valet parking, bell desk, childcare, in residence catering, personal assistant service, 24 hour front desk.
Slopeside ski storage, complimentary morning pastries and coffee during ski season, complimentary apres ski hot chocolate and cookies during ski season.
Preferred reservations at Matsuhisa restaurant and Bol restaurant and bowling alley.
On site
Private day spa with three treatment rooms, a heated indoor pool and hot tub and fitness and exercise facility plus heated underground parking.
Dining
Nobu’s Matsuhisa restaurant and bar takes pride of lobby place with soaring three story ceilings, private dining nooks and an impressive mountain view. Book ahead, well ahead. Though Solaris Residence guests automatically get priority reservations.
Coffee
Yeti’s Grind cafe is the choice of Vail locals and serves up espresso style coffees with velvet cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos, oats and more.
Entertainment
Outdoor ice skating rink, Bol bowling alley and Cinebistro movie cinema and burger bar.
What we say
Super spacious five star apartments in a central location served up with serious design and style and nothing left to chance, including spectacular mountain views.
From ensuite bathrooms the size of a studio apartment in Manhattan to open plan kitchens designed for entertaining, the attention to detail is what makes Solaris feel like home, or at least the home you wish you had. Perfect for both the attention seeker who wants to be where the action is without ever missing out and the introvert wanting to curl up with a good book post ski day.
Australians in particular will love the proximity of Yeti’s Grind for coffee as good as back home. The tip is to order a single shot eight ounce latte to ‘have in’. What you will get is the perfect flat white. Ask for Lindsey the barista and tell her we sent you.
Families will love the one stop entertainment shop from ten pin bowling to ice skating, movies and complimentary hot chocolates.
The good news is if you love your apartment then you may also be able to buy it.
Thumbs up
You have to love an apartment that has direct access to web cams on the mountain to check in with the state of ski play.
It’s a double thumbs up for the impressive Matsuhisa lobby for cocktails on the way out on the town or on the way home.
Housekeeping surprises with different turn down delights daily. Wait for the white chocolate dipped Oreos. One word, ah-may-zing.
Mountain view apartments with balconies get front row for the name bands that play in the plaza during the Burton Open festival and other key dates in the snow calendar.
Thumbs down
The design of the building ensures each apartment features lots of natural light but with this many windows you can find yourself looking out on someone or them looking in on you. However, strategically placed blinds can address this when needed but at the cost of some of that natural light.
Final word
Perfect for metro couples and skiing families with cash to burn.
