There are some rituals that are just part of ski life, and the Cardrona Hotel is one of them. Skiers and snowboarders traditionally end their Cardrona Alpine Resort ski day with a mulled wine around the giant outdoor fire place in the beer garden and compare their vertical.
The historic pub was founded in 1862 and is now on the market for sale by the current owners.
With a ton of development happening in the Cardrona Valley, the hotel is ripe for the picking. The Cardrona Valley is set to see significant growth with 400+ new residential houses underway, including the swanky Mt Cardrona Station and a valley-to-skifield gondola that will boost year round tourism.
Situated 20 minutes from Wanaka and 40 minutes from Queenstown the Cardrona Hotel is a year round must-visit for tourists and skiers alike and one of the most photographed buildings in New Zealand. With around a hectare of land and 17 ensuite hotel rooms (sleeps 44 with 84% annual occupancy), a famous beer garden plus restaurant and bar that are all included in the sale.
No word on the price, but it was valued back in 2010 at around $4million prior to any renovations.
The hotel was bought in 2013 by Cade and Alexis Thornton and James and Fleur Jenneson who are selling direct via an Expression of Interest on a dedicated website, no real estate agents involved. The hotel currently employs around 40-50 staff.
