The 22 year old snowboarder who died in a snowboard terrain park accident at Perisher yesterday has been named.

American, Drew Youngquist, was in Australia for the snow season, working for an outdoor adventure and education company in Jindabyne.

A pre-med student at the University of Utah where he was on the Dean’s list, Youngquist died at the scene of the accident on Front Valley at Perisher around 2.30pm on Tuesday. Police and emergency services, including paramedics and ski patrol, attended the scene at the terrain park but Youngquist succumbed to his injuries.

In a tragic twist, Youngquist himself worked as an EMT and was studying for an Honours Degree Bachelor of Science, Emergency Medical Services with an emphasis in Wilderness Technical Rescue and had worked as ski patrol at Utah Olympic Park in Park City.

He also worked as a Respite Provider for people with disabilities, primarily those with autism and down syndrome and was a volunteer youth leader.

His family have been informed and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Our thoughts go to his family and friends in the USA, those who worked with him here in Australia and the first responders and greater snow adventure community.
