You can never start too early when it comes to safety in skiing and snowboarding and with increasing demand to hit the backcountry, Thredbo have joined forces with the Australian Backcountry Festival to host a Youth Development Backcountry tour.
The backcountry tour is this Saturday, September 6, for strong intermediate to advanced skiers and boarders. The day is designed for the next generation of backcountry lovers and participants will receive a ton of education, information and experience to connect them with the backcountry community.
They will have an experienced guide for six hours with avalanche training coaching, introduction to skinning and touring and specialist equipment. Plus time in the Australian Main Range outside of resort boundary where they’ll learn about safety aspects and skills negotiating simple backcountry terrain.
Participants will be provided with a backcountry pack to use on the tour with beacon, shovel and probe. Split boards, ski touring equipment and skins are all available for rent, so no need to bring your own unless you have them.
You don’t need any prior touring experience either, just have to be comfortable on t-bars and be strong intermediate to advanced resort skill level.
A complimentary Backcountry Access Pass will also be provided but you will need a MyThredbo Card ($5) to upload it.
The day costs AUD$159 and you can register online.
