An inbound avalanche at Palisades ski resort in Tahoe today has killed one and injured three others after multiple burials.

The avalanche occurred at 9.30am local time after the KT-22 chairlift opened for the first time this season for access to expert terrain. The avalanche occurred in the GS Bowl.

The avalanche debris field is approximately 150 feet wide (45 metres), 450 feet long (137 metres) and 10 feet (3 metres) deep.

The Placer County Sheriff’s office has confirmed one fatality in a statement on their social media.

No further missing persons have been reported. More than 100 Palisades personnel participated in a beacon search, and two probe lines have been completed. The mountain is closed for the remainder of the day.
Palisades revealed in a statement that the fatality is a male skier who was pronounced dead by Tahoe Forest Hospital.

The entire Palisades Tahoe team, including all of the first responders, extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those involved in the incident.

The deceased skier has since been identified as 66-year-old Kenneth Kidd who is a local resident.
