New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, announced this evening that Auckland will return to Level 3 Covid restrictions after 4 cases of community transmission were discovered in South Auckland.
These are the first positive community transmission cases in 102 days for New Zealand.
The rest of the country will enter Level 2 restrictions including ski resorts on both the North and South Island. The restrictions are at this stage in place for 72 hours until midnight Friday.
On the South Island, Cardrona and Treble Cone have announced they will close tomorrow, Wednesday August 12 “while we coordinate our response to a Level 2 environment.”

Coronet Peak and Mt Hutt will also be closing tomorrow while staff are trained on Level 2 operational procedures. The Remarkables is already closed mid-week and only open on weekends.

Level 2 restrictions include 2 metre social distancing and no more than 100 people in gatherings plus record keeping to be upheld for contact tracing.
