A chair on a chairlift carrying four people in Stoos-Fronalpstock chairlift in the Charenstöckli area in Switzerland has plunged to the ground, seriously injuring four people, two of them critical.

The accident happened after 10pm local time on Thursday as the chair was transporting 10 guests from a private business event. 

A police report reveals that “the chair crash is related to a tensioned winch rope of a snow groomer. A four-seater collided with the rope on the descent and then fell about 10 meters into the depth.”

 

Six people in the following chairs were rescued uninjured. Four emergency helicopters were utilised to attend to the injured guests – a 33 year old female and 40 year old male with life threatening injuries and a 33 year old and 38 year old male with serious injuries.
