June 1 just gets better and better for New South Wales residents. First the Deputy Premier announced a ski season would go ahead, now the Premier announces changes to pubs, cafes and restaurant operations.

The 4 metre square rule will still apply and there is to be no mingling or standing around, rather patrons will be seated at a table, even in a pub. Venues will also not be permitted to take group bookings of more than 10 people.

“NSW will be taking an important, critical and big step from June 1 – pubs, cafes, restaurants and the like will be able to have up to 50 patrons” the NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, announced this morning.

Usual restaurant operations will obviously be altered due to the pandemic.

“Even something as simple as having joint cutlery on a table won’t be able to exist anymore” said Ms Berejiklian.

Deputy Premier, John Barilaro, welcomed the increased numbers as a boon for regional businesses, especially those already impacted by the bushfires.

This is good news for Australia’s ski season and will no doubt change some resort plans for operation. Word had been that on mountain dining would be take away only with social distanced lines and capped skier numbers per mountain.

With the new restrictions we may see pre booked tables for popular ski in ski out venues, should New South Wales resorts choose to operate their hospitality outlets in this manner.

However, we’ll definitely see a change in plans for village dining and the Jindabyne dining scene who will no doubt be feeling relief and welcoming the next stage of Covid recovery.

Though we wouldn’t be packing our dancing shoes for The Keller just yet.
