New Zealand is the elephant in the snow room this season. It is time we talked about it.

The Kiwi snow news (or lack of it) hit the mainstream global media this week as everyone from Mashable to NBC to The Chicago Herald and London’s Telegraph reported club fields yet to open and the warmest start to a Southern Hemisphere winter since 1909. Honestly, you’d think there was a climate crisis or something.

And just when you thought it was all over for the Kiwis, bam, in comes snow storms this week to keep them chugging along and then some. Mother Nature is clearly having a laugh, right?

We love this snow report from Cardrona on the South Island that says it all. We’re pumped!

Other resorts are posting images on social media this week of snow that has arrived this week.

Of course if you can access a helicopter then you will get the pick of the snow in New Zealand this year. Methven Heli Ski in Canterbury and Wilderness Heli at Mt Cook have got the best of the current snow storm cycles.

Down south near Queenstown and Wanaka Southern Lakes Heli Ski and Harris Mountain Heli Ski have been posting some salivate enduring images this past week too.

The good news is there’s more snow on the way for New Zealand if this report is anything to go by.

SnowsBest is heading over to New Zealand sometime soon and we’ll keep you posted on conditions direct from the ground as we go on a powder safari search.

Are you skiing or snowboarding in New Zealand this year? Where are you heading?
