After eighteen months of stay at home hell, the Australian Prime Minister has finally confirmed that international travel borders will open from mid November for states that have hit 80 percent vaccination rates.

This means New South Wales will be first plane off the tarmac as the state is expected to hit the magic number first.

So, what’s the deal? It’s simple, if you’re fully vaccinated and the country you wish to enter also has open borders, and both travel advice and limits are adhered to, AND so long as your state of residence has 80 percent vaccination rate; then away you go!

If you’re planning on returning to Australia and have been stuck overseas, this is also good news for you. The Prime Minister announced that international arrival caps will also be abolished for vaccinated ex pats wishing to return home. Australia will also launch a vaccine passport in the next month with proof of vaccination status.

At this stage, it is expected that seven days home quarantine will be mandatory for those Australian citizens and permanent returning to Australia from overseas travel. Fourteen-day quarantine will still be in place for anyone not fully vaccinated or vaccinated with a vaccine not recognised by the TGA.

“We need home quarantine pilots in New South Wales and South Australia to conclude and be successful so they can be rolled out at scale,” said Scott Morrison today.

If you’re wanting to hit the northern hemisphere for some ski and snowboard action, know that you’ll need both a negative Covid test prior to flight and be double vaccinated.

More to come.
