On the back of winter 2015 which was the highest visitation season since the ski field opened back in 1968, Treble Cone Ski Area (Wanaka, New Zealand) will be investing in upgrading and modernising the six-seater Home Basin Express chairlift, and in replacing two grooming machines with the latest grooming technology.

The existing Home Basin Express six-seater chairlift will be undergoing a $1 million upgrade including the installation of a new AC Drive, a new AC Motor, and new electrical controls.

The components for the chairlift upgrade are currently being manufactured at Doppelmayr’s facility in Austria, before being shipped to New Zealand where they’ll then be transported to Treble Cone and installed on the mountain by Doppelmayr New Zealand.

The Home Basin lift upgrade will “improve the reliability of the chairlift and increase the power efficiency through latest AC technology, whilst improving safety and removing the reliance on obsolete parts” Garreth Hayman, General Manager of Doppelmayr New Zealand.

Following the popularity of Treble Cone’s expanded commitment to snow grooming over recent years coupled with the successful intermediate terrain developments in the Saddle Basin, Treble Cone will be upgrading its two grooming machines with two brand new state-of-the-art PistenBully groomers valued at half a million dollars each.

The two new Kassbohrer PistenBully grooming machines will both be winch groomers imported from Italy, with one being a PB400 and the other a PB600 Polar.

The upgrade of the two grooming machines will increase reliability of the hard-working fleet and ensure that Treble Cone continues to deliver long, wide groomed trails every night, providing fantastic corduroy skiing and snowboarding for guests to enjoy daily, and helping Treble Cone’s grooming team manage snow cover across the mountain.

“Treble Cone has received overwhelming positive feedback on the quality of groomed trails over the last two winters from both visiting skiers and snowboarders and importantly from the loyal and passionate local riders and families” Jackie van der Voort, General Manager, Treble Cone Ski Area.
