Local produce delivered to your ski lodge door, you’re welcome

Let’s be honest, ski holidays are not the most relaxing holidays. All that schlepping of ski gear, sore thighs at the end of the day and sore heads the morning after all that après. Add children to the mix and you’ll probably need a holiday after your holiday.

There are some ways to help reduce ski trip stress, as two snow mums, Claudia Lawrence and Kristy McGuire, know too well. These two snowpreneurs have launched Dinner is Served, a ready locally made meal service for those on snow holiday in New South Wales Snowy Mountains.

I love this idea for those nights you don’t want to go out to dinner, yet again, but you don’t have the energy left to go to the supermarket, buy all the ingredients and cook for yourself. The whole process is done online the week before you arrive. Choose your week’s meals from breakfast, lunch and dinner and voila, it gets freshly made by a local chef and delivered to your door.

I know, right? Trust me, this is not an advertisement, it’s not even a press release, I haven’t even tried their food. I just love this idea completely. It appeals to the lazy cook in me. I’m pretty sure Uber Eats doesn’t work in a ski town, and I know from personal experience how much it costs to eat out on snow holiday.

The Aussie Breakfast Pack on the Dinner is Served menu is filled with bread, jams, honey, cornflakes, milk, orange juice, bacon, eggs and the like so you can whip up a quick or leisurely breakfast in your accommodation.

Then imagine beef and ale pie, lasagne, butter chicken, fish pie, spaghetti, pumpkin curry for lunch and dinner. Vegetarians will love the macaroni cheese, kumera and bean chili. There’s even microwave meals including chicken and chorizo paella and pork and ginger teriyaki.

For sugar addicts like me then key lime pie, sticky date pudding, apple crumble should keep you more than happy in your carb coma after a day on the slopes. There’s even picnic packs, cheeseboards for après, wines, beers, soft drinks and the like.

Too many choices? Then just choose a set menu pack for 5 or 7 days from AU$168, all made, all ready to go, a lot cheaper than a big supermarket shop.

The girls have employed Liz Scarlett as their head chef in the Snowy Mountains. Locals know her as the name behind catering company Dizzy Delights. She procures local seasonal ingredients to create the ready made meals.

I’ve seen my fare share or exhausted toddlers and kids trying to stay awake in resort restaurants where dinners often end in tears (theirs not mine, ok, sometimes mine). I’m pretty sure that Lawrence and McGuire have too. Hence creating Dinner is Served.
