If you had set your alarm for 11.59pm on Wednesday, June 10 in order to try your luck at purchasing the reduced number of lift passes for Thredbo this year, then you’ll need to reset it.

You can now go to bed early and sleep in as the resort has changed the date and time of the sale to the more civilised time of noon on June 11.

This is a far more sensible hour for guests to purchase, and no doubt the IT department can ensure the site doesn’t crash, as both season pass holders and non season pass holders jump online to try to secure their preferred dates for the season ahead.

Now, be kind and spread the word to all and sundry about the new date, so everyone’s not sitting up late and hitting refresh from midnight on Wednesday.

But that’s not all, more details on Season Pass holder discounts have also been released.

As we now know, the resort will be running initially at 50% capacity and all Thredbo tickets must now be pre-purchased online. Lift passes are $159 a day pass and you can purchase 1 to 7 day passes at a time.

Unless you’re a season pass holder, then you’re eligible for up to 75% discount. You’ll get even more if you purchase 10, 15 and 20 + days.

Season Pass discount pricing explained

If you had a season pass either fully or partly paid then you are eligible for the season pass discounts. Your season pass payments will be fully refunded and you can use the credit to new lift passes if you prefer.

There will be a number of season pass discount allocations per day to ensure season pass holders have more access to tickets and the more days you buy the bigger the discount from 40% to 75%.

It’s all explained in this handy table below, to save us from trying to talk you through it.

But, here’s the thing, to gain access to the different level of discounts, you need to have purchased the number of passes required. Upon completion of the purchase, you will need to log out and log back in to the Thredbo Online Shop to assign the higher level discount to your profile.

For example, to gain access to Silver level discounts, you must purchase 10 lift passes on your MyThredbo profile, before purchasing the next 5 lift passes.

However you don’t need to purchase all in one go. Your MyThredbo Profile will recognise the number of days you have purchased across the season and will unlock the higher level discounts.

You can purchase 10 single day passes in 10 separate transactions and when you log on to purchase your 11th pass, the system will recognise that you are now on Silver and apply that level of discount.

The tricky bit to ensure the discounts

If you are a Season Pass Holder trying to purchase more than 10 tickets in one transaction you will need to log out and log back in to the Thredbo Online Shop to assign the higher level discount to your profile.

This means you can’t, for example purchase 15 tickets in one transaction and have the system automatically apply the discount to your profile. Instead, you will need to purchase 10 passes, before purchasing the next 5 passes in a separate transaction.

Give yourself time

Season Pass Holder or regular ticket purchaser, you may want to get all your ducks in a row before Thursday. Charge your laptop, check your wi-fi strength, then check it again.

Have your list in front of you – how many tickets you want and the dates you want including your second preference dates in case you don’t get the first one. Get your head around the process, as much as you can, then hit go the minute the clock turns over from 11.59am to noon.

Good luck, you’ve got this.
