Mt Hotham Skiing Company General Manager Belinda Trembath today announced the company will invest an additional $4.4 million in new snowmaking infrastructure ahead of the 2016 season.

“This is the single biggest investment in snowmaking at Hotham since we partnered with government and the Mt Hotham Alpine Resort Management Board in 2008 to install the Loch snowmaking dam,” says Belinda Trembath.

“The expanded snowmaking will mean Hotham is now ‘snow-sure’ for more of the season. We’ll be able to open more terrain earlier each season and keep more terrain open well into Spring. Guests can book with confidence for the June/July school holidays next year.”

The expanded snowmaking will cover more trails on Heavenly Valley, the great intermediate terrain serviced by the Roadrunner lift, and the Beginner terrain in the Summit area. “Hotham is for all skiers and snowboarders,” says Belinda Trembath. “And now we’ll have more terrain suitable for different abilities covered by snowmaking and open from earlier in the season.”

Hotham’s General Manager of Operations Len Dobell will be managing the project over summer and is looking forward to receiving 18 state-of-the-art Techno-Alpin fan guns. “Those beautiful bright yellow snowmaking machines are just the tip of the iceberg,” says Len Dobell. “A lot of the magic of the new system will happen underground and behind the scenes, with a massive expansion of our pumping capacity and snowmaking pipelines, and a fully automated control system to take advantage of every possible snowmaking opportunity.”

The project will be completed by 1 June 2016, and the expanded system will be fully operational by the opening of the 2016 Snow Season on 11 June 2016.

  1. great now all Hotham needs is to get flights back. Who wants to fly to expensive Albury(no jets anymore) & then wait around for a 3 hour bus trip to Hotham. I’ll ski somewhere I can get to easily.

Melbourne airport is too far away.
