A third Australian has died in Japan this snow season with reports of the death of a man in his 20s skiing in the backcountry between Moiwa Ski Resort and Niseko Annapuri.

The man was working at a local ski lodge for the season. It is believed he was in a group of seven and disappeared from the back of the group. Early reports suggest he was killed in an avalanche and found unconscious.

The news comes after the death of 22 year old Brooke Day in a horror chairlift accident in Tsugaike.

The country is in the midst of record snowfall with extreme snow storms in both Honshu and Hokkaido over the last two weeks, with cold masses coming in from the Sea of Japan. Over 100 people have been injured and 30 have died during the storms.
