On the day of the famed celebrity farshion spectacle, the Met Gala in New York, us lowly folk in tracky decks can be thankful for the launch of the ALDI Australia snow sale – the annual explosion of Special Buys that fill the middle aisle with snow gear for the masses.

The new range dropped today around the time freeskier Eileen Gu’s dress was literally blowing bubbles on the Met carpet and alpine goddess Lindsey Vonn was showing off her post-surgery sashay prowess.

But, back to ALDI who have revealed “new research” alongside today’s launch that shows 17% of Australians, or rather 3.7million of us, are planning on a snow trip. Considering Australia boasts around 2.4 million skier days a good season and that roughly equates to 800,000 Aussies that ski at home, we can only assume the other 2.9million are going snow-seeing and looking for a snow ball fight. Though who’s counting (clearly we are).

But wait, there’s more, according to this “new research” six percent of Aussies say that their first run at the snow is more exciting than their wedding day and five per cent say more exciting than the birth of their children. Say what? If you’ve spent time in kids club at pick up time, you’d probably agree.

The folk at ALDI were also clearly inspired by Moncler Grenoble’s recent fashion shows in Courchevel and Aspen and chose to partner with the Sydney Bears Ice Hockey Club to launch a runway show at…. ICE ZOO Sydney…. to showcase the range.

The press release reveals ALDI wanted to test their Snow Gear Special Buys range in a way that matched the conditions it was built for. So they chose ice. Proving they really do ski in Australia (just jokes).

Of course we’re still waiting for our front row invitation which was lost in the mail. Given the amount of folks who accuse us of cash for comment when we announce the sale every year, we’d like to go on the record again and say this article is not sponsored, nor apparently invited, content.

But seriously, with all these Winter Olympians hot off Milano Cortina, we’re surprised they didn’t have Cooper Woods in an ALDI onesie at the GQ Man of the Year (yes, I’m available for marketing brain storms, paid of course).

Honestly though, if you really want to wear snow gear to play ice hockey because now you’re skiing in Canada, then you’ll find waterproof breathable designs in this year’s ALDI range starting from $4.99 and capping out at $100.

The budget supermarket chain will have over 50 winter items for less than $100 including thermals, outerwear and more when the sale launches on May 23.
