Perched at 9,000 feet (2750m) beside the iconic Lone Peak Tram, Iglu is Big Sky Resort’s newest mountain experience launched in February 2026 and made entirely of snow.
The slope side handcrafted snow-and-ice bar is built by Austrian master snow builders using centuries-old European alpine techniques. Iglu is more than just an Instagram backdrop, it’s a fully functioning alpine lounge that invites skiers to gather before tackling the mighty Lone Peak or celebrate after clocking another run.
From the outside, it looks exactly as you’d expect: sculpted snow walls and sparkling ice creating an authentic alpine igloo. Step inside and it’s a completely different story.
The interior has been transformed into a luxe mountain retreat thanks to a collaboration with premium home furnishings brand Arhaus. Plush handcrafted seating, soft textiles and natural materials create a cosy atmosphere that feels worlds away from the icy exterior.
It’s proof that “snow bar” doesn’t have to mean standing around in ski boots clutching a plastic cup. Instead, guests can settle in with a glass of champagne, sample Montana craft beers, warm up with mulled wine or hot chocolate, or embrace European après culture with an Aperol signature cocktail while watching skiers stream past.

“Built entirely from snow, the Iglu at Big Sky is certainly not your average mountain venue, and that’s rather the point,” says Simon Harris, Big Sky Resort’s Vice President of Food & Beverage.
“The craftsmanship from our Austrian building partners is superb, and the fact the whole structure is fleeting is unique in its own right. Inside, our partnership with Arhaus adds an unexpected layer of warmth and luxury that’s befitting of the Big Sky experience.”
That sense of impermanence is part of the appeal. Unlike traditional mountain restaurants, Iglu exists only because winter does. When the snow melts, so too does one of Big Sky’s most unique venues.
For Arhaus, the project was about bringing the comforts of home into one of Montana’s most spectacular outdoor settings.
“We were inspired by Big Sky Resort’s vision for Iglu as an experience deeply connected to its surroundings,” says Hannah Wickberg, Head of PR and Partnerships at Arhaus.
“It felt like a natural opportunity to bring warmth, comfort and craftsmanship into the mountain environment while giving visitors a memorable way to experience the Arhaus brand against one of Montana’s most captivating landscapes.”
The furnishings extend beyond the snow walls, with outdoor lounge areas encouraging guests to soak up the mountain views while enjoying one of Big Sky’s newest après spots.
Iglu is open throughout the winter season at Big Sky Resort.
