It’s a big day for China’s BONSKI, the global leader in indoor snow operations. First they announce a partnership with NZ Ski in New Zealand and now with Winter Sports World in Australia.
BONSKI will run Australia’s first indoor snow resort, ensuring snow enthusiasts and athletes have consistent play and training conditions 365 days a year. The China company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Winter Sports World to provide design consulting, pre-opening and post-opening operational management, embedding global best practice into slope design, snow quality, lift systems, athlete facilities and guest flow.
According to a press release today, when it opens in 2028, “Winter Sports World will help protect and strengthen the future of Australian snow sport and leisure by providing year-round perfect chemical-free snow (water + air = snow), perfect snow conditions and perfect -4°C snow weather.”
The $700 million project at Penrith in Western Sydney (New South Wales) will give Australian skiers, snowboarders and winter athletes 365-day access to Olympic standard snow, training environments and alpine-grade conditions. The indoor snow facility will have a 300m advanced ski run with controlled gradient zones, dedicated elite athlete training area for slalom, GS and drills and a separate beginner slope.
Winter Sports World managing director Peter Magnisalis said the deal signals a step-change for Australian snow sport.
“This partnership gives Australia something it’s never had: consistent, controlled, world-class snow 365 days a year,” said Peter Magnisalis, Winter Sports World Managing Director.
“From grassroots kids learning to ski, to elite athletes needing high-performance training lanes, Winter Sports World will open the door to a new era for Aussie snow sport.”
With all planning approvals complete and construction shovel-ready, Winter Sports World is positioned to become Australia’s premier indoor training destination strategically located just 60 minutes from Sydney international airport, 15km from the new Western Sydney International Airport and a 60-minute train ride from Sydney CBD.
President of BONSKI Lu Peng said: “The opportunity to help shape Australia’s first year-round snow destination is incredibly exciting.
“Our global experience means Winter Sports World will offer world-class snow quality, athlete-standard terrain and unforgettable experiences for skiers, riders and competitors at every level.”
Today’s announcement is hot off the heals of the recent FIS and BONSKI partnership to introduce one million children in China to snow sports.
