Eighteen-year-old Australian free ski athlete, Daisy Thomas, has potentially ended her Milano Cortina bid with a reported ACL injury sustained during the FIS World Cup Big Air final.

Thomas qualified second for the finals in Secret Garden, China and was on her second jump in the final when she landed awkwardly.

According to a press release from the OWIA, MRI scans confirmed an ACL rupture – which could effectively end her campaign for the 2026 Winter Olympics.

“Daisy was so unlucky today. She was excellent in the qualification round, and still had a career best with an injury on her second jump,” said Geoff Lipshut, Olympic Winter Institute of Australia CEO.

“She was on track for her first Olympics in February after training very hard in Australia all winter. We all wish Daisy a fast and successful return to sport, training and competition.”

Thomas was sitting in second place in the finals when she was said to rupture her ACL. She finished the event, despite injury, in sixth place, a career best.

She will return home to Australia in the coming days for potential surgery and a rehabilitation program with her medical team.
