First time to Queenstown? Then you must do these

You can’t do everything in Queenstown the first time you visit. But you can certainly try. At least tick these must do’s off your list. You can always return for more.

Chow down

If you have one thing and one thing only then make it a Fergburger. What started as a hole in the wall burger joint for late night munchies has turned into a fully fledged burger joint with a line up of devotees dedicated to what will surely be the best prime New Zealand beef burger you have ever had. Hands down. You can thank us later.

Drink up

It is sacrilege in these parts to spend a day skiing or riding Cardona and not finish it at the Cardrona Hotel. Far be it from me to tell you not to have a mulled wine by the outside fire in the garden of this heritage pub as the sun sets. The historical pub dates back to a time when people panned for gold dust long before they sought out the powder of the Southern Alps to slide down.

Fly high

One word, four syllables. Helicopter. Get one. Whether you take a scenic flight over Lake Wakatipu or land upon a peak for a photo opportunity or choose to heli ski a full day away, the humble helicopter will be your new best friend. Queenstown was made for helicopters. The breathtaking views from lake level are even more majestic when you fly high.

Jump off

If it stays still for long enough in these parts then people will jump off it. The adventure capital of New Zealand is called that for a reason. Bungy jumping is de rigeur for first timers but don’t stress, you don’t have to jump the 43 metres off Kawarau bridge, you could choose to do it after dark at The Ledge or better yet, throw yourself off the Nevis and free fall for 143 metres.

Ski down

Choose from Coronet Peak, the Remarkables and Cardona, all within driving or shuttle distance from downtown Queenstown. Together they offer over 1010 hectares of skiable terrain with something for all levels and types of skier and snowboarder from steeps to groomers, terrain parks and powder.

Jet about

Prefer your adrenaline on the water? Queenstown has you covered with jet boating through narrow gorges on roaring waters. Yes, you read that right. Just keep your hands in the boat and you’ll be right. If it’s good enough for Prince William and Princess Catherine, well, then…
