Australian ski resort Mt Buller scores a world first

Buller Ski Lifts (BSL) has become the first ski area operator in the world to achieve the “ISO Certifications Trinity.” The good news doesn’t end there either for the resort with BSL also recognised for its excellence in Risk Management at the Vero RM Advancer Awards ‐ winning the Property Risk Management Award.

After being awarded ISO 14001 for adherence to Environmental Management Systems in 2008, BSL completed the “Trinity” with the certification of ISO 9001 and AS 4801 standards for successful implementation of Quality Management Systems and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. This makes BSL the first ski field operator in the world to hold all three certifications.

BSL’s success at the Vero RM Advancer Awards was an acknowledgement of the business’ commitment to mitigating the substantial fire risks in the resort, which was under severe threat by the 2006 bushfires and our commitment to the unique Alpine environment and our safety and environmental management systems.

General Manager of BSL Laurie Blampied said it is exciting to see the company continually striving to improve and being recognised for its efforts.

“It is fantastic to see BSL going from strength to strength and showing its commitment to safety and quality within the resort, as well as its ongoing support for the unique environment in which we work.

BSL is very proud to be the only resort in Australia with management system certifications in Quality, OH&S and Environment. It’s also a great honour to be recognised for our commitment to risk management through the Vero RM Advancer Awards,” Blampied said.

BSL is the largest single operator at Mt Buller and was formed in 1993. BSL is a private company that owns and operates Victoria’s largest lifting network of 22 lifts, a thriving Ski & Snowboard School and childcare facility, the luxury Mt Buller Chalet Hotel & Suites and ABOM Hotel among a collection of other on‐mountain hospitality venues at Mt Buller. In addition BSL has several Buller Sports and Altitude retail and rental stores at Mt Buller and Mansfield, plus a property development and maintenance business unit.
