It’s official, Mt Hutt in New Zealand is opening two weeks early on May 31, making them the first resort to open in Australasia for 2025 skiing and snowboarding.
After a mega storm dumped 120cms on the resort, creating a solid base, the team made the announcement on social this afternoon.
But wait, there is a caveat (apart from weather permitting). Lifts will be spinning on weekends only from Saturday, 31 May, before opening daily from 14 June.
It will be the mountain’s earliest opening since 2009. The early opening will include key lifts and terrain, with more to come as snow and weather conditions allow. Guests are encouraged to check the Mt Hutt website and social channels for the latest on what to expect as opening day approaches.
The original scheduled opening date was 13 June. Mt Hutt will now be open King’s Birthday weekend (31 May, 1 & 2 June) and 7 & 8 June before opening daily from 14 June until its scheduled closing day 12 October.
