Aerial skier David Morris just missed out on progressing in the men’s aerials in PyeongChang, finishing in 10th position overall.

Ukrainian Oleksandr Abramenko took gold medal, winning by just half a point with a 128.51. China’s Jia Zongyang won silver with a score of 128.05 and Ilya Burov claimed bronze with a jump scoring 122.17.

In his final, David Morris had to fight hard for the landing, but pulled it off with a score of 111.95

The gymnast turned aerial skier spoke to Channel Seven after his elimination, joking “goal number one, didn’t die.”

When asked about his triple somersault with five twists that he planned to jump, David said “I landed one in training and really wanted to land it.”

Unfortunately, David did not get to proceed in the finals after being bumped from the next round from China’s Jia Zongyang in a jump that caused some controversy after the Chinese skier fell just meters after landing.

“I can’t argue it, it is tough luck for me. That is how it goes,” Morris told Seven, quickly adding that no one needs to be disappointed for him and that he is doing really great.

“People have come here to watch something amazing and that is what they are getting,” David said of the finals.

David briefly spoke of what happens from here on, saying “who knows, currently at the moment I will take some time off,” before hinting at looking into couching roles.

More details to come from SnowsBest on the ground in PyeongChang.

  1. I concur with your comments the landing is 30% ie 20% Landing/10% Exit ,clearly the jump in question has issues outside the 4 Meter rule.
