Palisades Ski Resort in California’s famed KT-22 ski lift opened for the first time this season  this morning at 9.00am local time.

An in-bound avalanche was triggered at 9.30am.

Powder Magazine calls the KT-22 lift “the greatest expert terrain lift in North America.” The lift is know for accessing some of the best freeride terrain in the world.

Palisades has closed the mountain and released a statement while search and rescue is in progress.

At approximately 9:30am today at Palisades Tahoe, an avalanche occurred on the Palisades side, specifically above the GS gully area of KT-22. Our Patrol and mountain operations teams are performing a search at this time. Both sides of our mountain will be closed for the day.
