The Remarkables to open this Thursday

Snow, snow and all go at The Remarkables.

Its snow, more snow, and all systems go at The Remarkables in Queenstown – announcing today (July 1) that the ski area will open for the season on Thursday July 3.

Snowfalls and snowmaking since yesterday (Monday) afternoon, together with more in the forecast over the coming days and winter temperatures is great news for snow lovers everywhere.

“It’s minus 5C to minus 8C up the mountain and the snowflakes are coming down, putting a big smile on all our faces,” said ski area manager Ross Lawrence.

“We’ve had our snowmaking guns blazing on the lower part of the mountain since yesterday afternoon and that’s going to be the case for the next 48 to 72 hours at least.”

A huge highlight of opening day will be the first chance for skiers and boarders to ride the much-anticipated new Curvey Basin Chair to the top of the ski area, opening up new trails and stunning views.

“I can only see thrills, exhilaration and a whole lot of excitement coming our way when people get to go for a ride on Curvey, check out what they can see from the top station, and get their first runs on the new trail.”

With the Australian school holidays already underway and the New Zealand school holidays kicking off from this weekend, Mr Lawrence said the timing of opening The Remarks combined with new snow “couldn’t be better”.

Mr Lawrence said trails anticipated to be open would include the new 30m to 40m wide Curvey Trail, Alta Green trails accessed by the Alta lift, and Casterway, Gotham City and the Lower Casterway trails in Sugar Bowl, as well as the learners’ area accessed by the main West-side conveyor lift.

Latest conditions will be updated regularly on The Remarkables snow report and through Facebook.

“I think people will really love checking out the work we’ve been doing over summer on the access road and all our new car parking as well as checking out the increased learners’ area. We’ve been busy!

“The snow dances have worked, the snow has arrived, and it’s all systems go! We can’t wait to get everyone up here.”

All base building operations will be open from Thursday, including F&B, rentals, ski school, childcare facilities and return transport from the downtown Queenstown Snow Centre.
