SnowsBest invited Australia’s leading snow photographers to submit their favourite pic of the season. The results are breathtaking.

“Getting good fresh powder shots on Buller is always a challenge. You’ve got to get the timing bang on, and get in ahead of the crowds. The alpine glow was the prettiest shade of pink. And sure enough, the rising moon also came in to the shot just nicely. I’d like to say that was good planning, but it was actually pure luck. And when the sun, the stars and the moon all aligned, Robbie dropped in, and BAM, that’s how you score a banger.

Also, as a nice end to the tale, this image picked up a Silver Award at the 2016 AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards which were held in late August. Next year Robbie, we’re going for gold.” Andyrails.com

“To never be seen again. A solo unknown tele skiier, on the horizon,  descends a peak across the valley from where we were camped near Mt Twynum, Main Range NSW.”  Andrewfawcett.com

“This is my friend and colleague Drew Jolowicz hiking up the Razorback at sunset a couple of weeks ago. There’s something about the geography of this area that creates a very distinct sense of place. Hotham’s outlook over nearly all the nearby mountains creates amazing contrast between the alpine environment and the surrounding landscape. You can see Mt Buffalo’s hard granite shape in the background, fingers of light streaming off it at sunset, and the tiny figure hiking up the foreground emphasises the scale of this environment.” instagram.com/marktsukasov

“When Thredbo dishes up a powder day, you want to make sure you have a good crew to capture the goods. Here in late July, Philippe Lahey attacks the Thredbo powder in the Cruiser area on what was one of the best 2 or 3 days of the season. With all that snow flying from his previous turn, he skis right through for an added bonus face shot.” skitracks.com.au

“Although I often feel alone when shooting, I very rarely am, my furry friends are always close, sometimes too close. Another Guthega wombat enjoying the sun shine.” charlesdavisphotography.com

Chris Hocking

“I have three pics I can’t decide between but this one is Peter Bennetts with the first run on the summit for 2016. He got the goods.” facebook.com/ChrisHockingPhotography

“I call this Buff the snow farter. Powder snow just off piste, the sun on the horizon and groomers in the foreground.” instagram.com/karlgraymedia
