The biggest snow storm of the Aussie ski season begins now

Snowy McSnowiest Face has arrived in the Aussie ski resorts this afternoon and is setting up camp for the week ahead. Forecasts are for well over a metre over the next seven days with temperatures remaining below zero so the snow will be cold smoke blower.

What a winter we’ve had already on the powder laden slopes of Australia’s alpine regions and with the latest blizzard we’re sure to break the 2 metre if not more mark at Spencer’s Creek (the ‘official’ snow depth chart for New South Wales).

    What’s in store this week?

Some snow storms are more equal than others and it looks like New South Wales will get the biggest hit over the next week.

Meteorologist, Jane Bunn from Janesweather.com disagrees. She has New South Wales and Victoria neck and neck for the next three days, then New South Wales ahead for the full seven.

Weatherzone.com isn’t taking sides, preferring to present a forecast for the alpine regions as one. If their top end totals come to fruition then somewhere is going to have 158 centimetres of powder to lose yourselves in.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast for Thredbo is very promising with sub zero temperatures all week to keep the snow super dry and some big ‘rainfall’ numbers which, for those in the know, will actually fall as snow. One millimeter tends to work out as 1 centimetre of snow.

Snow-Forecast.com for Perisher is going under the radar with 74cms over 6 days. We think they like their glasses half empty.

Snowatch.com.au has 106 centimetres over the next 6 days for their top end forecast. Let’s hope Pete The Frog Taylor is on the money.

So how much will really fall?

Here’s a picture of our prediction.
