Hotham is launching its first beginner-only terrain this coming winter to be serviced by the new ‘Bunderool’ conveyor belt carpet.

Named in guidance from the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, the new conveyor lift will be launched with a special naming ceremony at the start of the snow season.

The beginner only terrain can be found behind the Hotham Central Building where the Basin Terrain Park was originally based, easily seen from Swindlers deck. The terrain park will now be relocated to a snow dependent location determined at the beginning of this upcoming ski season.

The Bunderool serviced terrain is close to rental collection and lift ticket services so first-time adult skiers or snowboarders will be able to take a beginner-only lesson in a more accessible environment.

Bunderool carpet is part of an ongoing commitment to improve the experience for beginners on the mountain, alongside improving the safety of all skiers and snowboarders,” said Tina Burford, Hotham’s VP and General Manager.

“It’s not often beginners experience the heights and spectacular mountain views from their very first lesson, but at Hotham our village is perched close to the summit and our new carpet is positioned to capitalise on these amazing views.”

It is hoped the new carpet will also help ease congestion at the bottom of the Summit chairlift.
