While the USA media went into meltdown about the presidential election this past week, ski resorts in Colorado and Wyoming quietly delayed their opening days. Let’s blame Trump for the lack of snow. Why? Because it makes a better headline.

The reality is it’s only November. But Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado have already delayed their opening days indefinitely. Well, at least until there’s snow and today Grand Targhee in Wyoming announced they would also delay their November 18 opening until Mother Nature decides it is time.

Park City is scheduled to open on November 18 but temperatures haven’t even been cold enough to make snow. The weather forecast calls for snow on Thursday and a bluebird day on Friday this week, however we expect their may be a minor change of opening date for them as well though the storm is expected to bring around 30cms of snow, so you never know.

Social media feeds have also been filled with laments from skiers and boarders in Aspen and Telluride begging for snow in the same week that Mammoth Mountain opened with top to bottom powder images. Nature can be so cruel.

But before you throw the baby out with the bath water remember, these are early days. Very early days. All it takes is one big snow storm and these anxious waiting days will be forgotten.

Remember, NOAA predicted and later confirmed a La Nina weather pattern for the North American winter which means a good snow winter for the Northern Rockies from Montana into Canada.

I could post pics from France here but that would just be cruel (if you really want to see them head on over to the @misssnowitall Instagram account). Because France has had some seriously good snowfalls this last week, the kind that makes you wax your powder skis.

But never fear, dear reader, we have good faith that we will be posting our own powder pics from the USA and Canada come December. We all know winter likes a good waiting game, it’s half the fun.
