When is too early to get excited for snow?

Expect snow in New Zealand this week. Yep, this week.

One of our Facebook devotees alerted us to the snow forecast in New Zealand. Yes, yes, I know, we should be on top of it but really, it is only April.

More fool me for it looks like a cold front is coming through Kiwi land and blowing snow on top of those peaks.

Mt Hutt has certainly been greedy in 2014. Members of their team skiied in January, yes mid summer, on their mountain. Now it looks like they may be clicking into some planks again this week with up to fifty centimetres forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.

If, like me, you are itching to get the goods in the southern winter already then you may want to try these events to mingle with fellow snow tragics and talking synoptic charts.

What we haven’t shown you is what happens after Thursday. Rain. But not a lot of it to count.

So could this be the start of a winter snow base or am I just peaking too early? I mean, I did purchase a new gas heater yesterday and I live in tropical Sydney that is already feeling the ice cold bite. Next I’ll be driving in my ski boots.

When is too early for you to get excited about an upcoming snow season?
