Perisher has cemented itself as the number one Southern Hemisphere destination for top level terrain park riders to train in their off season.

Many athletes that excelled at the recent Sochi Olympic Games were training in the Perisher parks in August last year including all 3 medallists from the Snowboard Slopestyle event with Gold medallist Sage Kotsenburg and silver medallist Stale Sandbech returning to train and compete in Perisher this week.

Other elite athletes that have been in Perisher during the 2013 and 2014 winters training include Joss Christensen (Ski Slopestyle Gold medallist), Torstein Horgmo, Tom Wallisch, Chas Guldemond, Keri Herman, Bobby Brown, Jamie Anderson (Women’s Slopestyle Gold medallist), Jenny Jones and Australia’s own Olympians Torah Bright (Dual Halfpipe Olympic medallist), Nate Johnstone, Scotty James and Russ Henshaw.

American Olympic gold medallist Jamie Anderson says she loves riding Perisher parks. “We all kind of gather to snowboard, to ride an awesome park, do a few competitions, and visit some kangaroos! And just have fun!”

Perisher CEO Peter Brulisauer said “Perisher’s PlayStation Terrain Park ranks amongst the best in the world and is the premier Slopestyle Park in the Southern Hemisphere.

Due to the great work the Perisher Terrain Park team have been doing the facility is truly world-class. This is attracting skiing and snowboarding Olympic and World Champions to Perisher to gain valuable training time.”

The fast turnaround time when lapping the park, combined with Perisher’s state of the art snowmaking system and the largest and most current rail fleet in the Southern Hemisphere, make Perisher the perfect place at this time of year to attract the top riders in the world.

The position of the PlayStation Slopestyle Terrain Park on Perisher’s Front Valley also makes it perfect for guests to enjoy the spectacle of the big airs from these professionals. Situated above the Perisher Village and in front of several restaurants and bars, and underneath the Village Eight Express Chairlift, it’s easy for anyone to watch these athletes ripping it up in the parks and enjoying the sunny days Australia is known for.

With 7 terrain parks and Australia’s only halfpipe catering to all skill levels, Perisher also has the best facilities for anyone wanting to develop their park riding abilities.

Perisher Winter Sports Club Head Snowboard Coach Chad Collier said: “Perisher is very proud of the great terrain parks in the resort. With 7 terrain parks and 2 halfpipes including the mini pipe for the kids to try for the first time we have facilities to cater for all levels of skiers and snowboarders.

Everyone from the kids in our beginner terrain parks to our Olympic athletes such as skier Russ Henshaw and snowboarders Scotty James and Nate Johnstone. It really is the only place to be to progress your skiing and snowboarding skills”
