Buy your own ski resort for less than $1million

Fancy owning your own ski resort? You’ve come to the right place. Maple Valley ski area in Vermont is in the market for a buyer and all you need is US$950 000.

Ok, the resort hasn’t run as a public ski resort in 17 years and the last time the chairlifts turned was back in 2000 but don’t let that deter you.

The ski resort, founded in 1963, has almost 400 acres in southern Vermont and ‘boasts’ 300 metres of vertical. Add 16 trails, a halfpipe, two chairlifts, a t bar, floodlights for night skiing, tubing and a ski lodge plus a facility to produce 200 gallons of maple syrup annually. Maple schnapps anyone?

The website advertising the sale reveals”

“the snow making capability of the mountain since 1987 has enabled skiing regardless of weather. The focus of the owners has been to continue to grow the skiing side of the business while concentrating on the development of other year-round uses. A summer flea market was successful. There is also a Maple Sugary on the property.”

Two onsite generators provide power for the lifts and lodge and water pumps access the river for snow guns. There’s a campground on an orchard area and swimming in summer. I am seeing a music festival, a mountain biking conference, a centre for naturalist artisans…

The ski lodge can serve 200 people in the bar and dining room and is three stories tall with ticket booths, rental and retail, admin offices and a large deck. There’s an open dining and game area, cafeteria, bar, lounge and more. Hmmmm, how about a wedding venue? A health retreat? An artist colony?

Why not take it back to simple basics and cheap lift passes and create a retro inspired snow destination for all those onesie loving mono skiers?

    Ideas welcomed.
