The sun is shining, the days are longer and the snow is mega because it’s Whistler in Spring and we all know that March is the month Whistler Blackcomb traditionally gets more snowfall than any other winter month.

Sure, you can spend your Canadian days skiing and snowboarding and why wouldn’t you? But you can also get amongst some seriously awesome events when you choose to hang out in North America’s largest ski resort during Spring.

Wine up

The Winemaker Après on top of Whistler Mountain series celebrates local wine makers with a special afternoon featuring world class wines paired with locally-sourced culinary delights. Perched atop Whistler Mountain with stunning views from Steeps Grill & Wine Bar, a full-course dinner complete with wine pairings is guaranteed to be a feast for your senses. .

The Inniskillin Okanagan Estate crew will be sharing their interior British Columbia grape love with diners on March 9 with vintner Derek Kontkanen.

If you’re in town later in the Spring then See Ya Later Ranch wines will be pairing their wine magic with local produce with another wine lunch on April 13.

Tickets are CA$99.45 and available from Whistler Guest Services.

Kid Cross and Pros

If your kids are 9 to 13 years of age and keen to try their level 5 or 6 competitive hand at the Terrain Park Snowcross course then they can enter the two day Whistler Blackcomb Ski and Snowboard Cross event on March 11 and 12.

Prefer to watch than compete? Then check out the Mackenzie Investments Whistler Cup for 11 to 14 year olds from April 13 to 16. This is one of the most important ski races in North America and held under the Federation of International Skiing. Athletes from over 25 countries compete and you and your kids can watch some of the best competitive skiing from tomorrow’s Olympians.

Celebrities and charities

Register solo or as a team and help raise some funds to support seriously ill children and their families on March 27 to 28. The Ronald McDonald House BC Ski Challenge offers two days of fun on and off the slopes. Take part in a friendly ski and snowboard race with celebrity skiers, or pamper yourself in Whistler Village with activities such as a cooking school at Araxi or a spa day at Scandinave Spa. All participants enjoy a welcome party and an après-ski banquet dinner and you can register via this link.

A Festival, not like you know it

The World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) from April 7 – 16 is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Expect 10 days of sport, music, arts and parties with outdoor gigs, pro athlete ski and snowboard competitions, film events, nightlife, spring riding and so much more. Bring Berocca.

Just for Mum

Are you a mum? A step mum? A grand mum? A fur baby mum? This women’s Mum’s Mountain Classic event is held every April (this year on April 12) and all are welcome to register and compete. Registration includes coffee, race practice, a race, lunch and apres. Dress up, the brighter the better.
