Moose, wombats and bears, oh my!

Bears in Tahoe, moose in Quebec, lynx at Big White and a snowboarding opossum in Pennsylvania.

Ski resorts are built in the mountains and surrounded by national parks filled with critters. Most stay in hibernation or out of the way but some have been spotted making a dash for it across ski runs leaving skiers and boarders bewildered or down right scared.

This season saw two bears at Heavenly resort in Tahoe.

Whitewater resort in Canada boasted their own winter resort bear as early as January.

While moose are a regular occurrence at some resorts. Amangani in Jackson has their own resident moose, Lucy, who has taken to five star accommodation as her preferred place to stay.

This moose took to the slopes of Mont Sainte Anne in Quebec a few years back.

Not sure who was more scared in this video – the moose or the skiers? Quebec, again, eek!

In Japan they have snow monkeys who love onsens and can be seen darting across the ski slopes at Shiga Kogen.

But they also have serow, a Japanese style mountain goat seen here at Hakuba.

Thredbo ski patrol often stop skiers and boarders so they can escort a wombat across the ski run. Awwww, bless.

If you find yourself at Liberty Mountain ski resort then look out for Ratatouille, an American opossum who shreds.

  1. i remember standing at the top of Zali’s at Blue Cow waving down skiers with my poles to allow an echidna to get across the top of the run.
